Who is the Lorax?
I'm many things... Mom. Farmer's Wife. Non-Profit Development Coordinator. Embedded Librarian. Graduate student. Lover of intellectual freedom, historical fiction, and the occasional dark beer.
I wish I could say that I've been hugging trees all my life, but my background is just as average as the next person. I grew up in the suburbs, just started recycling within the last few years, and never understood those environmentalists who bought organic, policed their own energy usage, and demonstrated on Earth Day. Sure, it sounded like an important cause, but it was never my cause. I never batted an eye if I left the water running while brushing my teeth and the only reason I was sure to turn off lights was because I didn't want to pay for the extra electricity. It didn't seem like an issue I could do anything about, so why bother caring? The more I've learned, however, the more I realized that knowing better but neglecting to act wasn't able to do. I'd even go so far as to take life advice from one of my favorite movies: "There is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men." Simply put, now that I know better I have to do something. This blog, although a work in progress, is my first step in the right direction.
I live my life by the saying "love what you do and you'll never work a
day in your life." I'm married to a wonderful man and have a beautiful
son who I know will grow up to change the world in his own unique way.
We live in an 60+ year old house on the family farm and grow a few
hundred acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, and have a cow-calf
operation. This means there's always a mouth that needs fed, something
that needs picked or planted, and a never ending list of things to do!
There's definitely a million things going on in our family, and while
it isn't always easy juggling everything, I wouldn't trade this for the
world. I'm blessed with wonderful friends, family, and get to live my
dream every day. I guess these words sum me up best:
"Live simply so that others may simply live."
"Good luck is made. Bad luck is endured." -RFK
